national songwriting competition

WHAT TO DO? 

  • Unleash your imagination …write some lyrics and put them to music OR compose an instrumental piece OR just write the lyrics.
  • Download an Entry Form. See below.
  • Written lyrics must accompany each entry, with the exception of Best Instrumental.
  • Each song entry must be entered on a separate entry form.
  • Online entries will only be accepted with a signed form.
  • Entering in multiple categories? Each category type must be submitted on a separate media format, i.e. if you wish to enter say, 2 songs in Category A, and 1 song in the Environmental Theme category, you would need to provide 2 CDs, MP3s or Tapes, one for the 2 songs in Category A and one for the song in the Environmental Theme category.
  • Clear Identification of your CD or Tape. Please ensure you have your name, song title, school name and category clearly marked on your CD or Tape.
  • No DVD's accepted for judging.
  • Entries Close Friday 26th September 2008
  • Winners announced Monday 10th November 2008
Primary & Specific Purpose Schools
Category 1
Open to school students in Years 1 and 2.
Category 2
Open to school students in Years 3 and 4.

            Category 3

Open to school students in Years 5 and 6, and for Year 7 students in states where Year 7 classes are part of Primary School.
Category 4
Open to all school students in Specific Purpose Schools.

   

      Best Instrumental

Open to school students in all Years of Primary School wishing to enter an instrumental composition. No lyrics required. Sheet music appreciated but not compulsory.
Hip Hop, RnB, Rap
Open to school students in all Years of Primary School for Hip Hop, Rhythm and Blues or Rap.

 

  Environmental Theme

Open to school students in all Years of Primary School. The Environmental Theme covers topics such as drought, flood, global warming, pollution, land use sustainability, and wildlife protection.

           

            Lyrics Only

Open to school students in all Years of Primary & Specific Purpose Schools. No musical accompaniment required. This category is judged on lyric structure and content.

Secondary Schools
Category A
Open to school students in Years 7 and 8. In those states where year 7 is part of Primary School, those Year 7 students should enter on the Primary & Specific School entry form.
Category B
Open to school students in Years 9 and 10.
Category C
Open to school students in Years 11 and 12
Music For Free?
Open to all school students in Years 10 to 12. This category is part of the Values for Australian Schooling: Building Values Program. The Commonwealth Department of Education has launched a teaching and learning unit for Secondary English classes entitled 'Music For Free?'. The 'Music For Free?' unit explores the ethics of illegal file sharing and encourages students to respect music by getting it legitimately. The assessment for the 'Music For Free?' unit can be entered in the ACMF 'Music For Free?' category or entrants can independently enter a song that discusses the ethics of illegal file sharing.

Songwriter: 2 Tickets to one of Warner Music’s Premium Touring artists, including a ‘meet & greet’ with the artist.
School: A visit from universal artist Brian McFadden for a ‘meet & greet’ and performance (If the school is located in a major metro area). If the school is outside a major metro area, the prize will be $500 worth of musical equipment.
